A prosthesis also known as a prosthetic or prothes, is an artificial device that replicates a missing body part, which may have been lost through trauma, disease, or congenital conditions.
This is a poster of hand-illustrated prosthetic devices that were used during the 19th century.
A transhumeral prosthesis is an artificial limb that replaces an arm missing above the elbow.
A transradial prosthesis is an artificial limb that replaces an arm missing below the elbow. The cable operated limbs work by attaching a harness and cable around the opposite shoulder of the damaged arm while other type of prosthetics are the myoelectric arms which work via electrodes, when the muscles in the upper arm moves, causing an artificial hand to open or close.
A transfemoral prosthesis is an artificial limb that replaces a leg missing above the knee. A transfemoral amputee must use approximately 80% more energy to walk than a person with two whole legs.
A transtibial prosthesis is an artificial limb that replaces a leg missing below the knee. Transtibial amputees are usually able to regain normal movement more readily than someone with a transfemoral amputation, due in large part to retaining the knee, which allows for easier movement.
This poster is 17 inches wide by 22 inches high, generous black ink lushly printed on parchment stock.
PLEASE NOTE: This poster image was hand-drawn original poster size by Madame Talbot using nothing more than a vintage rapidograph pen and Dr. P. H. Martin's Bombay Black India ink on Crescent 201.6 Hot Press Medium Weight illustration board.
After completion, the image was hand-delivered to Ryan Gwinner Press in Portland, Oregon and printed on an offset printing press.
Absolutely no computers were used in the creation of this poster - from start to finish.
