The subject was inspired by medieval hillside villages in Southern Europe; the style was inspired by traditional quilting techniques long practiced by women in the States: especially the blocking patterns of the traditional patchwork quilts of the Plains States and the idiosyncratic irregularity of the crazy-quilt. The blue square is the artist's trademark for this series and an homage to individual eccentricity. Imagine that someone now living in such an historic European village decided to paint their home bright blue.

This painting is 24" x 8" x 1.5". It is acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas with an acrylic satin varnish and built-in mounting bracket. The title is painted on the inch and a half wide bottom edge of the canvas frame, where it can be viewed from below, but doesn't interfere with the picture itself.
