Description

This listing is for a PDF pattern (containing 2 patterns), instantly downloadable after purchase, so you can start stitching right away!

These last couple of weeks I’ve been making several trips to the magnificent York Minster. It is such an awe-inspiring structure: the 2nd largest medieval cathedral in Northern Europe, and just a minute away from our doorstep!

In the Chapter House, which was build in the 13th century, you will find magnificent stained glass windows and finely carved stone seats of the Dean & Chapter, as well as a beautiful tiled Minton floor, which was the inspiration for these patterns.

In the 19th century there was a strong medieval revival, and many churches and cathedrals were restored and adapted to Victorian tastes. In the Chapter House, this meant that the architect Sidney Smirke replaced the original (and fading) medieval murals on the ceiling with contemporary designs. He also installed the current cast-iron heating grills and the Minton tile floor.

I love geometric patterns, and these repeat patterns with their medieval leaves and branches are just the perfect size to stitch for a cushion cover.

The pattern measures 237 by 237 stitches – embroidered on 32-count linen it would measure 15 by 15 inches (37.5 by 37.5cm). Make sure to check out the rest of my shop, to see what fine linens and embroidery threads I have on offer!

I hope you’ll enjoy working on your project. I’d love to see the end result of your work!
