Description

The choice we have when choosing a sunblock is between "chemical" sunscreens, which contain ingredients which may be absorbed and could disrupt the body's hormone systems, and "mineral" sunscreens, which contain zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.

The EWG (Environmental Working Group) and the FDA are in disagreement as to the safety in humans with the use of retinyl palmitate (Vitamin A) and oxybenzone in commercial sunscreens. If you are tired of not knowing who to believe, perhaps you would like to try a body lotion containing ingredients with their own natural sun blocking properties.

This body lotion is not tested by the FDA and is not being promoted as a sunscreen. It is a moisturizing body lotion with the additional benefits of its ingredients having their own SPF factor in blocking the sun's harmful rays.

The hair on our heads protects the skin from exposure to the elements. People with thinning hair or no hair should be caring for their vulnerable scalps, ear tips and even foreheads, by moisturizing and protecting vulnerable areas from the sun.
This lotion is rich in skin nourishing oils that will greatly help with dry skin issues as well.

Zinc oxide is known to be safe. The micronized particles of this mineral form a physical blocker in sunblocks and deflect the suns rays like a mirror. The particles sit on the outermost layer of your skin, scattering and absorbing UVA and UVB rays, protecting the skin below. The zinc oxide used is non nano zinc oxide. Popular with commercial sunscreens is to use nano or micronized zinc oxide that has been treated to reduce the size of its particles. When added to sunscreens it does not leave a white film on the skin. The problem with this is that the particles are so small they can enter the body through the skin, causing potential health problems.
Zinc oxide is often paired with titanium dioxide, which reflects light, but titanium dioxide is not included in this lotion because it has the potential to be irritating to the skin.

What you want in a sunblock is broad spectrum protection, which means protection against both UVA (sun's ultraviolet long-wave) and UVB (sun's ultraviolet short-wave) rays. UVA is what causes aging and wrinkles ( blocked by zinc oxide) and UVB (blocked by zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) is what causes burning. UVA rays penetrate the skin more deeply which is why our skin tans but also contributes to aging skin and the risk of cancer. UVB rays damage the skins epidermal layers resulting in sunburn and a risk in skin cancer.

According to an article from Wake Up World by Marie Be: "UVA rays damage skin cells called keratinocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis, where most skin cancers occur. They penetrate deeper into skin tissue where they release free radicals, damaging DNA and skin cells, promoting skin aging and causing skin cancer. UVB rays stimulate the production of new melanin and a thicker epidermis, which are your body’s natural defense against UVA damage. They also cause sunburns, which are the body’s natural warning and protection system against UVA damage."

It is better to have a lower SPF (sun protection factor) and have a UVA blocking ingredient than have a high SPF but only be blocking UVB. Zinc oxide blocks both UVA and UVB rays.
SPF refers only to the risk of burning (UVB) and should be at the minimum 15. The amount of zinc oxide used in this sun lotion is 12% which is sufficient but since it is not tested by the FDA I cannot make any claims as to the actual SPF.
.
This sunblock lotion consists of skin loving nourishing oils which in themselves contain a low SPF factor.
Avocado Oil - SPF 6- 8
Avocado oil is a heavier oil full of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants, and is great for repairing body tissue and maintenance of healthy skin.

Sesame Oil - SPF 4
Sesame oil is a stable oil and helps increase the shelf life of the lotion. Long used in skin care, it soothes, softens and helps reduce skin aging.

Shea Butter - SPF 4 - 6
Shea butter is another heavy butter that once it penetrates is very therapeutic for dry damaged skin. High in fatty acids needed to retain moisture and elasticity, a favorite for serious skin care.

Hazelnut oil - SPF 10
Hazelnut oil is a lighter oil which is slightly astringent, nourishing and quickly absorbed into the skin.

Wheatgerm oil - SPF 20
Wheatgerm oil is one of the best sources of natural vitamin E and when applied to the skin acts as an antioxidant to prevent free radical damage.

Coconut oil - SPF 4
Coconut oil is known for its ability to help skin retain moisture. This wonderful hydrator feels so cool on parched skin.

Aloe vera is used in many formulas for reparative skin preparations, soothing astringents and sun products. Its gel is extremely cooling and refreshing.

Carrot seed essential oil has significant antioxidant value, high levels of vitamin A and provides natural sun protection.

This sunblock comes in a 4 oz. plastic flip top bottle.

If you only intend to use this lotion during the summer season, store what is left in the refrigerator to extend the shelf life till needed again.
Since sunscreen bottles are often within a beach bag, car or pool gear, they are exposed to heat and sun, which may accelerate spoilage.
If you want a larger than 4 oz. size it would be best to purchase multiple bottles and use one at a time.

Shake the bottle to reblend the ingredients if necessary. Without synthetic emulsifers and stabilizers there is a chance the oil and water content will separate. Just give it shake before using.
Apply 30 minutes before sun exposure.
Reapply hourly and after getting wet.

I really appreciate the option to replace the Tea Tree with Lavender. That was one of many selling points for me: along with the absence of coconut oil and my love of sunflower oil. This product is definitely better than most for acne prone skin. However, it seems as though one of the ingredients used prevents it from absorbing into my skin the way I hoped it would. I'm thinking it's possibly the glycerin or the emulsifing wax. I used a different product that also had glycerin and, after about a week of continuous use, I noticed that my face had a slippery feel when I would wash it in the evening.

Lovely lotion! I have not had the opportunity to use it regularly, as I am trying out a few different ones at once, but it has worked well and not caused any breakouts yet. I also appreciate the little extra gift that came with it :)

Please review the ingredient list of the product before purchasing and be aware of known allergies. Immune systems function differently so there is always the risk of a sensitivity even with natural ingredients. The preservatives used are an antimicrobial called grapefruit seed extract, the antioxidant Vit. E and the concentration of essential oils. These are a non-synthetic, natural means of extending shelf life but are not the broad spectrum preservatives found on the commercial market. Being the risk of contamination is always present in any perishable product please try to use the item within 6 months or keep in the refrigerator.

Shipping policies

Packages are carefully wrapped to ensure it reaches its destination safely.
If the package weighs 13 oz. or less it will ship by USPS First Class Mail. If it is something perishable such as creams or body butters during the heat of the summer I'll send it Priority Mail. If the package is over 13 oz. it will automatically need to be sent Priority Mail.
Packages that ship Priority Mail are automatically insured up to a value of $50.

I live on the east coast, therefore depending on to what zone the package is to be sent will determine the actual shipping costs. Shipping costs for Priority Mail varies greatly as a package travels further across the country. Should the package need not travel as far the actual shipping will of course be less, therefore the buyer will receive a refund on the shipping costs charged at the time of purchase.

For buyers with multiple items, if they end up overpaying on the totaled shipping costs compared to the actual shipping costs, I will reimburse minus the packaging costs.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:

Should a buyer choose the Other option as payment please be aware that I cannot accept personal checks. There may be problems with a check drawn on a non-US bank in a foreign currency. In fact, I'm not sure our banks will accept the payment. Payment needs to be as an International Postal Money Order in USD.

Contents of the order are itemized on the custom forms which is the requirement of the seller. Customs duties are the responsibility of the buyer. Each country has different limits and it is up to the buyer to educate himself/herself on that particular country's fees. Custom fees are often based on the dollar value. Businesses are not allowed to mark an order as a gift, it is marked as merchandise.
Below is a helpful resource for finding out how much you may have to pay in fees:

Due to restrictions on Bath and Beauty products we do not ship to Mexico

Please be patient with the shipping times for international orders. The minimum shipping time is about two weeks, but depending on location it could be a month or longer till the package arrives at the buyers address.
