Description

--Mother's Home--

Shapes playing together tell stories. It's funny, the mind will try to make sense of anything, a deadly trap. But with pictures, whole worlds and concepts can be realized. Danger.

Part of the "2D World" series, ©1999 Randy B. Nutt

Matted, under glass.
Black matting and black frames, dimensions with frame 12x15"
ready to hang

Abstract surreal collages mounted on cardboard, matted and framed, ready to hang. We have a lot in common with the two-dimensional world. The three-dimensional illusion created on the surface communicates with our own free-thinking desires and beliefs. Depth and reality happen in the imagination. I created the collages of this series entirely from fragments cut from ads in Vogue magazine during a residency in Angers, France for a solo exhibit in 2000, 2D World, Le monde en deux dimensions at Atelier 107 (Angers). They were also exhibited in a two-person show (Richard Aidan was the other artist) in 2001, Two Views. Deux Regards at the Alliance Française de Miami. The art object is an intimate companion to our life: our internal life, which is so personal and, for many of us, cannot be expressed or allowed to be expressed. In art, our mind can run free. The art accepts us readily and joyously, because the art itself is next to nothing without the perceptions of the human mind it receives. These works are an attempt at a reorganization of the civilized world, taking fragments of reality out of context and reassembling them into a free form. The images are lifted and repositioned for their own reality: a comfortable relationship for themselves rather than what we might want. The idea being: give up yourself and let the images describe themselves as they would like to be described with their own composition, configuration and meaning. My hope is for liberation of the mind. Like opening a door and taking the mind for a walk. Each individual understands something different from a picture. A picture receives as much as it gives; in a partnership with the mind, these forms walk and talk. They live within us. The symbiotic relationship is between the 2D world and the brain, virtually a window that looks back. Or perhaps it is an eye that the artist sees into but the eye also looks back: a decision-making unit that describes an emotional and intellectual understanding in a three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface. The Art just is what it is. It just is.

This painting that I just received from artist Randy Nutt is absolutely breathtaking. As you see it is quite large and the perfect visual note for our great room. It is one of those paintings - as Nutt's paintings are known for -- where you can stare at it for an hour or a day and continue to see new things. It is mesmerizing and beautiful. I cannot say enough about the painting or the artist. If you do not own a painting by Randy Nutt you need to fix that immediately - John Trimble 2014

We are really delighted with the art we purchased from Randy Nutt's Etsy shop. It is a beautiful piece. The art was shipped from the US to the UK. It was well packaged, and it arrived on time and undamaged. It is now hanging on the wall of our living room. I can thoroughly recommend Randy Nutt as both an artist and an efficient businessman. Thank you!
