Description

This proud gem is a piece of Botswana agate. Botswana agate is prized for its purplish gray overtones and profusion of concentric bands. It's getting harder to come by these days and the prices are unfortunately going up. This was my first time getting to work with the material and I immediately saw why it's so popular. The fine translucent bands running through the transparent host chalcedony give the look of the delicate gills beneath a mushroom's cap.

This stone has varying tones of light and dark gray with a warm brownish gray 'eye' at the base. The stone was cut with a "knife edge" ridge running from the point and dissipating at the gentle slope to the flat base. The stone is quite large at 30.22ct and measuring 24 x 26mm and 8mm tall. Botswana agate is a very tough stone and takes quite a high polish. The back of the stone is beveled and polished.

All my stones are hand-cut by me, and the stone you are buying is always the stone pictured. Please see my shop policies for more information, or feel free to contact me with your questions and feedback.

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day!

I have met some of the nicest people on Etsy and Phil is definitely right up there. He agreed to hold on the stone for me and agreed to make a simple but elegant sterling setting for this stone he carved out of chunk of rock. I wish I could share his creation with you, but I don’t know to leave a photo, it won’t take.

You will never regret buying a hand cut beauty from Phil, his talent is rare.

Thank you for your patience and my new pendant

Phil has been fantastic to work with, this ring is exactly what I had in mind. From choosing the stone to designing the ring, I can't think of a single complaint. Throughout the process Phil has been patient, kind, and very talented in his work. If you're reading reviews to find the one place to have something special done, Alternatives Lapidary should be on the top of your list.

Thanks and its been a pleasure Phil!
