Description

Owl-framed ammonite fossil, a bit heavier than our matching earrings.

A few ammonites in my latest batch were pretty heavy for earrings, so, in response to several requests, they're becoming pendants. This one is hung on a bronzy gold ribbon and cord necklace, which complements it perfectly, but it's also available on a brass chain. the default for this is 18": if you want a different length, convo me & also use the message space in your order. I'll probably see both, but just in case..... UPDATE: We are out of the gold ribbon-&-cord necklaces. We have bronzy brown or (also sort of bronzy) green. Or brass chain, usually 18", but ask if you want something else. You'll get chain unless you request ribbon.

I have only a few of these in pendant size, and our last 2 batches of owl ammonite earrings sold out, so if you want one don't wait too long. I can hold a piece for up to a week if you request that & tell me when to expect payment, but of course if you're unable to follow through it will be relisted.

I'm fascinated by ammonites, which range from 66 to 300 million years old, are related to the still-living chambered nautilus and have the same Fibonacci spiral in their shells, and can be used to date archeological digs. There's lots more info on the net if you want it -- meanwhile, they make nice jewelry.

The photos are not great. This guy was hanging on my work light with a bunch of other necklaces, but I wanted to get him listed, so just took a few snaps. I think you can see what he looks like, but for more detail, check the matching earrings

This piece should be fine under normal wearing conditions. I would, however, keep it out of car shoulder belts, bathtubs, and swimming pools, and away from animals and small children.

Payments

Secure options
  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
We accept paypal, credit cards, and personal checks. Paypal or a card will get your stuff there faster, since items paid by check aren't mailed until the check arrives and clears.
We normally ship by first class mail with a tracking number once a week, sometimes more often, as soon as possible after orders are paid for and packaged, but because of our location there may be a few days' delay in getting to the P.O., especially in stormy weather. We also insure all items over $50- in the US, but can't track or insure packages going to most international destinations.

Returns & exchanges

If your item arrives broken or damaged, I will refund the price, including shipping & handling, when it is returned or when you send me a photo clearly showing the damage. You can also return the item to be repaired or replaced, or, if it cost $50- or more, collect the insurance from the PO.

I will also give store credit for returns for any other reason as long as you let me know immediately that the item won't work for you and return it promptly--within 10 days in the US, and a negotiated time from other countries. You pay shipping and of course it needs to arrive in the condition in which it left the shop.

Shipping policies

PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING ME TO REDUCE SHIPPING AND HANDLING!!
I've been asked recently by a couple of new customers interested in buying one item whether I would lower my first item shipping costs for them. The answer is no--it wouldn't be fair to my other customers, especially those buying more and/or repeatedly, and it would be a loss to me.

Here's the deal with shipping: the first item charge covers packing materials, my cost for getting the packing materials, going to the PO--gas, oil, wear & tear on my car, and time.

April 2016 I AM VERY SORRY TO HAVE TO RAISE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING COSTS.
I took a 1/2 oz package to the PO this week and they charged almost $10- more than I'd paid previously! I'm keeping it as low as I can by sourcing less expensive (but still sturdy) packaging, etc., but I can't control the PO!
I will try to sort out rates for different countries-- they are listed in numbered categories-- & reduce for those not at the higher end, but I just ate $9- in shipping on a tiny package & can't afford to keep doing that. If you think your country is less expensive and I haven't redone this, ask me & I'll check and change if possible.

Additional items are much less because all of that except the actual cost of packing materials, additional postage, and a little bit of time is already covered.

I could build some of this into my prices, as many sellers do to make S&H lower, but I choose to keep my prices low and make S&H realistic and much cheaper for additional items--if I built it into the price it would cost more for each purchase rather than just the first one.
