Description

Description of “Always Autumn“ walking stick:
It’s autumn again. It is the time when Nature begins to blend her palate in preparation for the full glory of a painted forest of hardwoods. Green chlorophyll production in the leaf has peaked over the summer days. Earth and sun dance into a more separated partnership, still together but with a slightly different relationship to one another. Growth slows down. Sunlight fades. Less food for the tree’s leaf is required. However the food, glucose sugar, becomes trapped in the foliage continuing to attempt to feed the waning leaves’ need for nourishment. To overcome the melancholy, Nature dips her brush.

No longer food, in the energy rays of light, glucose supersedes the chlorophyll turning the leaf a bright red. As this natural unprocessed food is absorbed by sunshine and cool air, the leaf fades across the spectrum of colors only Nature’s brush can lay down - orange hews, then yellow, some purple or streaks of maroon here and there - until all but the brown leaf fiber is left becoming renewed food for subsequent years. It is a beautiful cycle. This is always autumn. I hope this walking stick’s representation of such a beautiful sequence of events will enhance your appreciation of the glory of an autumn season.

The rubber gripper on the bottom has been fashioned from a bicycle tire. For accent, the carved leaf borders have been ebonized by soaking the chipped out cavities in a blend of my own formula of iron rust, red wine and vinegar. The wood, ebonizing, acrylic paint, and honey suckle vine have been encapsulated under a clear coat sealer that provides a protective non-yellowing and scratch resistant finish. The vine is new growth honeysuckle and is both glued and nailed to the cedar cane. The leaves have been revealed by a chip carving technique wherein the surface plane of the ceder cane is the same as the surface of the leaf. The ceder wood walking stick is 44.5" long, with a 5.5" diameter at the grip. This piece is hand made and a unique one of a kind rendering of the American southern highlands craft.

The most unusual and beautiful birdhouse I have ever seen. This would make a wonderful gift for a special someone. I just happened to be that someone because I bought it for myself!
