Guatemalan Ikat Fabric in Fiesta Stripes
This fabric is 36 inches wide and is sold by the yard. It is 100% cotton.
Guatemalan fabric is woven in the highlands of Guatemala on a treadle loom. It is all done without the use of electricity. The weaving tradition is handed down through the generations in the Mayan communities. It is said that the Mayan goddess Ixchel gave the gift of weaving to her people. It was truly an amazing gift.
The ikat design is actually dyed into the thread before it is woven. The thread is tied off something like tie-dyed fabric and then dipped in the dye. It takes a lot of skill by both the person doing the dying and the weaver to know exactly where those tie-dyed sections will go to make the design.
This fabric would make great table runners, napkins, bags, or pillow covers. It is a mid-heavy weight fabric.

I could not be more pleased with the Fiesta Stripes ikat fabric. All about it was as promised, if not better! Very high quality fabric, and prompt delivery. I plan on purchasing several more items from this shop
I've ordered from Spanglish Fabrics several times including recently. As always, the fabric, service and fast shipping were outstanding. I can't say enough good things about them. I definitely come here first.
