Description

Description of The Eyebrow Entrance Birdhouse:
A natural design of an eyebrow window, a prominent 1940's attic architectural form, covers the entrance to this birdhouse. The subtle formation of the remaining oak wood over the space where once an oak tree limb extended from the tree captured my attention. I discovered this little piece of wood on a disintegrating oak tree that had fallen many years past. My imagination scurried quickly to a simple little architectural feature called an eyebrow window incorporated into a roof structure to bring light into a closed attic space. Consequently, hence came the name of this decorated birdhouse. The effect seems to be preparing the entry for a fetching "blink" welcoming the nesting pair back home as they enter into its nesting box measuring [W x L x D] 4" x 5.5" x 6.5". Although a visually understated feature, once focused upon, the eyebrow defines the character of this piece.

This birdhouse weighs approximately 7 pounds. It measures [W x L x D] 20.5" x 12" x 17.5" and mounts on a post requiring a 3/8th inch pipe adaptation (mounting instructions included with shipment). The outside surface has been covered with pine cone petals that have been glued, tacked, and stapled into place to hold each piece firmly to the structure’s base. Although The Eyebrow Birdhouse may well be used as an indoor, covered patio/deck, or for a sun room décor accessory, it is in every aspect a functional outdoor birdhouse. It has been coated with shellac, and then covered with a two part epoxy finish using a UV resistant clear liquid two part epoxy poured over the birdhouse, encapsulating the structure for impact resistance, limited solar protection, and finished for outdoor life.

The removable top uses natural veneers of from the decomposing tree to accentuate the roof pitch when viewed from front. The roof sides have been adorned with other pieces of smaller veneer along with oak tree bark crafted to appear to be held in place by the pine cone petals. The back of this piece has a "bird tail" oak veneer that seems to grow out of house and held in place again by the pine cone pieces. The design encourages the viewer of the piece to make a 360 degree examination of this artfully designed birdhouse. It is a one of a kind piece and comes with a letter of authentication as well as a brass plaque designating the structure as my ORIGINAL work. I loved how this example of Nature's handiwork came out!

The most unusual and beautiful birdhouse I have ever seen. This would make a wonderful gift for a special someone. I just happened to be that someone because I bought it for myself!
