For more than two centuries floor cloths, oil cloths, and painted canvases were used as substitutes for carpets in hallways, dining rooms, and on stairs in place of expensive carpeting, tiles, or marble block floors. Artists' canvas is cut to the designated size and then painted with white acrylic gesso paint to stiffen the material. Acrylic paint is used for the design and three to four coats of polyurethane covers the floor cloth to protect the design. The edges are glued and steamed to prevent fraying.

Today, floor cloths are not confined to hallways or dining rooms. They are found in any room of the house - foyers, bedrooms, in front of kitchen sinks and fireplaces, dens, and studios.

In most cases, the patterns, designs, and colors can be easily customized to your tastes or needs to coordinate with your decor. Canvas pieces can be created in many sizes upon request. Custom orders are gladly taken.
