Description

Take Dark Delight In Your Very Own Penny Dreadful - Size 36

This jacket was inspired by the dark and lovely Miss Vanessa Ives from Penny Dreadful, with an added touch of the type of wicked fairy one might find in a misty, fairy-tale woodland.

The jacket is cut with a nipped in waist and classic tailcoat silhouette – short points in front sweeping round to a long, flared tail at the back. The back features two slits running from the hem up to the waist seam, finished with decorative metal buttons. The front waist seam has small pocket flaps set into it, but please note that these are purely decorative – they *do not* lead to actual pockets!

The centre front of the jacket opens & closes with three black Chinese buttons at the waist, bust line and throat. Closing the throat one creates the classic prim & proper Victorian look while leaving it undone results in a more open, almost V-neck shape which you can see in the last image.

The collar is a small stand up one that gets higher at the back neck and is overlayed with a fine floral lace. Gathered mesh tulle creates a wide but soft ruffle around the neck and continues more narrowly down the front opening.

The upper sleeves are the classic Victorian puff/leg o’ mutton silhouette in two layers, with the emerald silk of the body slightly showing through the overlay of black embroidered mesh. From the elbow the sleeves flare out very dramatically into many overlapping layers of mixed fabric. At the front the sleeve falls slightly over the hand, to about the knuckles, and then gets longer at the back. They are swishy enough for the perfect swooning pose!

Outer Fabric: Main - 100% Dupioni silk in emerald green. Upper Sleeve Overlay – 100% synthetic blend mesh with floral embroidery in black. Lower Sleeve/Cuff Layers – 100% nylon tulle in black with silver glitter, 100% synthetic blend floral patterned lace in black, 100% synthetic blend crochet lace in black, 100% Dupioni silk in black. Trim – 100% nylon soft mesh tulle in black, 100% synthetic lace in black. Buttons – metal alloy with antiqued silver finish.

Lining (fully lined): 100% acrylic blend paisley-pattern brocade in black.

Sizing: This is based on my size 36 pattern, which is designed around a person with the following measurements: Bust = 95.3cm, Waist = 75.4cm, Hip = 99.1cm. The jacket has finished measurements of 104cm around the bust and 78cm at the waist. It is cut shorter than the widest part of your hips at the front and flares out around the hip at the back, so if your bust & waist seem suitable the hip should also be absolutely fine.

If you have any questions at all about sizing please feel free to ask! You can find out more about the sizing of my patterns on my website - http://www.sebastianwilde.com/about/#sizing

Custom orders: If you love this item but the size is not for you, or there is some other detail/colour you would like done differently, please contact me and I’ll see what I can do to help. I can’t always find the same fabrics/trims/etc. again, but I will try my best and am happy to discuss the options with you.

Washing/Garment care: Please note that this is not the type of garment you will be able to just throw in the washing machine. I would strongly recommend specialist cleaning if it is to last.

Such a beautiful jacket and the most seamless (!) design process. Ceilidh's style was the source of inspiration; this combined with her access to beautiful materials, skill and patience the reasons I now have this stunning addition to my wardrobe : )

Payments

Secure options
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
For international orders, most people choose the PayPal option, but if you would like to do a bank transfer/direct deposit, please select the “Other” option and I will send you an invoice with my banking details. I cannot offer “Direct Checkout” because Etsy has not yet enabled it to work in my country, sorry!

If you are buying from within South Africa please select the “Other” option and I will send you an invoice with my banking details so that you can just do an EFT, it's easiest for both of us.

Orders will only be shipped once the payment has been confirmed.

Returns & exchanges

In principle, all sales are final. The one-off, custom nature of the items, as well as the international nature of most sales, makes orchestrating returns/refunds really impractical.

I try to make sure that every item I list has good pictures, a clear description and as much detailed info as possible to help you make an informed decision on any purchase. I am also happy to try and answer any additional questions you may have before you click “buy”.

If you do find yourself unhappy with some aspect of your order when it arrives, please do contact me and if there is anything I can reasonably do to try and help you I will.

Shipping policies

For international deliveries I use our national post offices EMS (Expedited Mail Services) option. This service usually delivers to your country in 7 working days and includes a tracking number and insurance.

Once the parcel reaches your country it will still have to go through customs, and I can’t say for certain how long this will take. I make every effort to ensure that the parcel is sent with the correct forms and all the information required to make this part of the process go as smoothly as possible.

Please note that certain customs taxes, import duties etc. may apply and are entirely up to you to pay. I have no way of knowing before if these might apply or how much they will be.

Some countries do not accept EMS parcels from South Africa. If this is the case, I will just have to make use of airmail (still with a tracking number and insurance wherever possible), which can take significantly longer, up to 3-4 weeks.

If you would like to make use of DHL Express delivery this can be arranged, just ask. It is certainly the quickest and most reliable way to send a parcel, but it is also very expensive (add approximately $100 on top of the regular shipping price).

Once payment has been confirmed I’ll try my best to get your order dispatched the same day, or first thing on the next business day as the case may be. To receive your parcel you will need to provide me with a physical address (no P.O boxes) that will have someone there during the day to accept the order. The courier service also requires a daytime telephone number in case of any complications.

Shipping rates will change each year on April 1st in accordance with the prices set by the South African Post Office.

For deliveries within South Africa I use the PostNet to PostNet service. This service promises delivery times of 24-48 hours to major centres and up to 72 hours for outlying areas and includes a tracking number. If you would like courier to your door, this can also be arranged – just ask, although it does cost more.
