Description

Reproduction of an original watercolor painted by Peter M. Mason, featured on our Massachusetts & Rhode Island Lighthouses: Illustrated Map & Guide. Built in 1860 and modeled after Britain’s 4th Eddystone Light, the granite tower, a Civil Engineering Landmark, marks the fearsome Cohasset Rocks at the entrance to Boston Bay. In 1894 a revolving lens was installed in the bronze lantern, which showed a 1-4-3 flash. Someone interpreted that as “I love you,” whereupon Minots Ledge became known as the “I Love You Light”--despite the enormous storm waves that break over it, as in the painting.
