This is a most revealing non-conventional portrait of Howard Hughes... here shown surrounded by some of his cohorts and pistol packing "bodyguards" (caught off-guard) from the Spruce Goose era. Hughes is shown holding a folded plat of San Pedro, California. This is an image taken from an original B&W Glossy Bromide Print. The image, reported to be from 1947, has undergone careful restoration in the print making process for the best possible tonal depth, sharpness and fidelity to the original. The display print is free of dust or discoloration. Photographer is unknown.

"1947 - Howard Hughes flew his "Spruce Goose," a huge wooden airplane, for eight minutes in California. It was the plane's first and only flight. The "Spruce Goose," nicknamed because of the white-gray color of the spruce used to build it, never went into production"
