Description

Wedding guest signature print is a great alternative to the traditional guest book because after your special occasion, you have a keepsake you can display on the wall in your home! You may have some questions regarding using a print as your guestbook and hopefully I'll answer most of them here. If you have any additional questions, just let me know!

*This listing is not for sale. It's just an article to help my customers!

---------- Ways to Use a Wedding Guest Print ----------

There are two ways to use a Wedding Guest Print. The guests can sign directly on the print or the guests can sign on a signature mat. I will go into detail for both methods.

Signing on the print is pretty self explanatory, simply ask your guests to sign your print! With a signature print, the larger the print, the more signatures it can hold.

A signature mat is an extra wide mat which your guests sign instead of the print. Your print is inserted into the center, leaving it untouched. With a signature mat, your print should be 8x10 or 11x14 and the mat should be at least 4 inches wider on each side.

---------- Pen ----------

The most common question I receive is what type of pen to use.

If your guests are signing directly on the print: I recommend using the ZIG Photo Signature Pen. The pen is specially designed to write on photo prints and comes in assorted colors if you want to have a more colorful end result. They are available on Amazon and may be available in your local photo or stationery store.

If your guests are signing on a signature mat: I recommend using the Sakura Pigma Micron Pen. They come in a variety of colors and thicknesses, have outstanding permanence and dry quickly. I recommend at least a 08 (0.50mm) size for signing. I use these all the time for drawing and they can also be used on prints, however, they dry slower than ZIG.

If you are in a rush and these pens are not available, a Sharpie Ultra Fine will work as well but they may not be as archival. However, Sharpies can be found in any stationery store.

---------- Size ----------

>>> For signature prints in my "Custom Map Prints" section:

It really depends how much room you want to give your guests. People tend to write bigger when there's more room. Do you want them to write a message? Below are recommendations for basic signatures:

11 x 14 - up to 50 signatures
16 x 20 - up to 100 signatures
20 x 30 - up to 200 signatures

Also, with my custom map prints, I can make always make the map smaller if you want more room in the background. Just let me know!

>>> For signature prints with pre-determined number of spaces such as the ones in my "Wedding Guest Prints" section:
www.etsy.com/shop/ShapeofLove?section_id=15866361

I recommend 16x20 for under 100 signatures and 20x30 for over 100 signatures.

>>> For signature mats:
I do not offer signature mats in my shop but you can simply bring your print to any framer and ask for an extra wide signature mat. If you are the DIY type, you can purchase a signature mat from any source and frame it yourself. Below are my mat size recommendations for an 8x10 print:

16 x 20 mat - up to 100 signatures
18 x 24 mat - up to 150 signatures
20 x 24 mat - up to 200 signatures

---------- Display ----------

People are most comfortable writing on a table. Make sure you have set aside a table space large enough for your print. You can simply lay your print on the table or have it framed beforehand. Some suggestions for either way...

---------- Styrene Mounting ----------

I offer Styrene Mounting in my shop and I recommend it if you are ordering a large print and you're not framing it beforehand. It makes your print much more durable especially when it will be handled by many people.

Styrene is a super smooth plastic that is known for its durability, rigidity and strength. Your print will be permanently glued to an 1/8 inch thick sheet of white styrene. With Styrene mounting, your print can be displayed prior to framing. Once everyone has signed your print, you can just stand the print on an easel for everyone to see!

---------- Framed Display ----------

You can also frame the print before your wedding and simply remove the glass cover and set it aside. This will make your print look elegant and give it support. Then after the wedding, just place the glass back in and you're ready to display!

If you have any other questions or suggestions, just let me know! Thank you for reading!
