Description

A. Rappolli, French Impressionist painter from the 1960's of the surrounding Paris countryside, painting slightly unconventional views of famous landmarks. This painting captures the energy of Paris just slightly off centre from a tourists vantage. These are Parisians going about their daily walks and drives to work; this well could be a Monday with a drizzly forecast.

What seems sweet is the Volkswagen introduced into a traditional scene. And if the painter picked up his paints and turned around, the usual painters' subjects would come into view, the bars and the restaurants of countless painters before him.

Quai de Bercy was built up as a harbor in the 1500's and used as a Military Zone around 1540 by the building of a wall around the city. Quai de Bercy has the last of the original 95 Bastions used to defend the city. All the bridges and quays are wonderful places to visit for the color and dash of Paris.

Simpsons-Sears and Eatons from the 1930's to 1960's imported a wide variety of paintings from well known Canadian and International painters of that time, selling them from their downtown stores throughout those years. A. Rappolli's painting has the 'Simpsons' logo on the back.

The frame is in good condition and the painting has some smudges in need of cleaning and otherwise is in very good condition and ready to hang.
