Description

The process of creating centers my being. It combines my roles as artist, scientist, gardener, cook, wife and mother. Ceramics carves out a space, between raising children, weeding garden rows, reading, hiking, and the every day tasks of living to reflect on the small details of my day. It places the small moments into the context of the cycles and processes of nature that are continually in motion.

Each piece, through it's creation and use, is a reminder of the intricate processes on which life depends: pollination to fruit, fruit to food, food to nourishment, nourishment to community, and our communal place in a larger ecosystem.

My work also connects me to my greater community. Ceramics, as tactile, durable and useful objects, become integrated into the daily routine: a necklace, the morning cup of coffee, the vase on the table, the casserole dish at dinner and the art tile on the wall. They are the small details that make a house a home. A home in which we make food and drink, share and celebrate, and build the foundation of our lives.

This botanically inspired, one of a kind necklace is composed of an individually fashioned wood and ceramic tile. The wood is cherry that has been sanded until it feels silky. The cross section of the flower is carved into a wet porcelain, bisque fired, and then the pattern is enhanced with washes and glazes. Wires and white clay beads connect the assemblage.

The cherry tile measures 2 1/2" x 3/4". The white ceramic tile is a 1 1/4" square.
The necklace chain length is approximately 15 inches (measuring from clasp to clasp).

Shipping policies

Items will be shipped USPS Priority almost always.

Packages arrive 2-3 business days after they are marked as shipped- most of the time. There can be delays with US Postal Service and those are out of our control. We always will provide a tracking number. Please be patient and notify us if a package does not arrive within a few days of the expected date.

Some items will ship quickly, others, not so much- it all depends on where I am in the process. Each piece takes days to make, days to dry, days to fire, a day to glaze, and several more to glaze fire.

If you are requesting a custom order, or more than 3 pieces let me know and we can work out a deal on the shipping.

Please keep in mind that there are other costs associated with shipping besides postage. Ceramics are fragile, and because of that it needs to be specially wrapped, padded and carefully shipped. All of this increases the cost of shipping an item. Thank you for understanding.
