The salamander is an ancient Incan symbol for youth, ability and skill. This pendant started out as a round slice of ivory-like tagua nut. It was dyed an inky black, and then the artisan expertly carved into the black, revealing the white tagua nut underneath the dye. The black and white is a striking combination. As each pendant is handcarved, no two are exactly the same, ensuring you receive a unique piece.

- The pendant dangles from a black cord, 27 inches (70cm) around.
- The cord has an adjustable sliding knot to keep the pendant in place.
- The tagua pendant is 1.3 inches across (3.5cm).

Tagua grows on palm trees in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador. Indigenous people gather the nuts and dry them in the sun. Tagua is harvested sustainably from the Rainforest. It’s very hard, light and durable and can be carved just like ivory.

This necklace is gorgeous! It was a bit smaller / more dainty than I'd imagined. That isn't bad, was just a surprise. Really lovely.
