Tagua, also known as vegetable ivory, is sustainably harvested in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador. It shares many properties with elephant ivory: its very strong, light and takes a beautiful polish.

Tagua nuts are a large nut harvested from palm trees that grow naturally in swamps in the Amazon jungle in Northern and Central South America. The nuts are dried, sliced, polished and dyed and used to create jewelry. Using hard seeds and nuts such as tagua helps to preserve the rainforest as it provides a sustainable, renewable and valuable alternative to mining or clearing the rainforest for farming purposes.

With the bright and bold colors we are known for, this statement jewelry is made to our standards of Fair Trade, provides a sustainable income for our team in Ecuador, and only the highest quality, organic components. This necklace is gorgeous! It was a bit smaller / more dainty than I'd imagined. That isn't bad, was just a surprise. Really lovely.
