Vintage 2-hole beads Pink "LOVE" Lot

This lot of tiny vintage 2 hole beads (or sew-ons) was most likely originally made for baby bracelets. I was lucky enough to find a few batches with the original tags marked Czecho-Slovakia. The checks and Slovaks became united in 1918--freed from the rule of Austria and Hungary. Prior to this time, most of the beads were unmarked (but sometimes called Bohemian). Beads made from this region just after WWI included among other markings, this short-lived hyphenated name. So that dates this bunch pretty specifically.

If you look closely, you will notice tiny imperfections in these that are part of the way these pressed glass beads were made--and I think they add to the charm. The letters are part of the bead (they form a little valley) where the dark paint was most likely filled in and then wiped out (there is certainly some variation in how carefully this was done, but you are really picky you can use lacquer thinner to clean out the old paint and drop in your own). The glass color is that of an old semi-translucent ("greasy" color) rose pink and these measure a very dainty 6.5 mm x 6.5 mm x 2.5 mm thick. Both front and back is shown in the photo. Two parallel holes run from side to side. Once my stash of these are gone, I don't expect to see them again.

There area total of 20 beads in this lot; 5 in each letter "L" "O" "V" and "E".

Possible uses for this bead: I would use these to embellish tiny silk and lavender filled pillows as valentine "cards" (my idea of a mix between the Victorian language of flowers and the coded beadwork love letters found in Africa). Perfect for Baby bracelets and Jewelry, Doll Clothing Enhancements, Artwork, Crazy Quilt Creations, Memory quilts and heirloom baby memory items, embellished frames, beaded fringe and lace, Valentine day cards, and other creations, Scrap books.

My picks for Companion beads: antique seed beads in greasy colors, tiny 2 hole beads, French brass or steel cut seed beads, metallic sequins in heart and flower shapes.
