Description

For your consideration, I am offering a gorgeous, large, 19th Century, hand-painted, Art Nouveau, Royal Bonn Center Piece large Cache Pot Jardiniere with Brass Stand manufactured by Franz Anton Mehlem Factory, Made in Bonn Germany....

Absolutely gorgeous and flawless, this cream color large centerpiece bowl/jardiniere depicts hand painted Cactus plants flowering in shades of greens, pinks and lavender outlined with gold trimming, gold sponge wear band along edging and on base plus accented with gold on the floral designs..

This rare centerpiece measures 7 3/8 inches top rim diameter, 5.25 inches base diameter, 7.5 inches height exclusive of metal stand, 9.5 inches height with metal stand..

Back Stamp has the stamped pottery mark in red the stylized FAM scripted letters in center of the manufactured marking along with crown and the word Bonn under (This mark was used roughly between 1875 to 1890 with or without the Bonn) ... Also the numbers 1755 which refers to earlier Bonn pottery manufacturer piece, rather than a date the piece was made..Also in red D. 2662 64 274 plus I do notice some of the impressed numbers 244..

Light signs of previous use should be expected consistent with age...Free of chips, cracks or restoration, slight nicks on the base only, slight to none on the gold wear - when viewing all the gilt gold that I notice on one area of the floral design, typical slight crazing noticed on base only..All issues mentioned for accuracy of description..

Absolute gorgeous porcelain piece to own!!

Some information on the Royal Bonn Franz Anton Mehlem Factory:

This factory manufactured from 1836 to 1931...This new factory already used two coal-fired kilns instead of the old wood-burning type in the previous facility and the company was renamed after the father of the two Mehlem brothers, Franz Anton Mehlem end of 1839- first week of January, 1840... Royal Bonn Ceramics included porcelain and earthenware...The most interesting was made between 1880 to 1920 which this factory produced everything from sets of dishes with floral designs and gold trim to heavy art-nouveau pottery vases with three dimensional decorations of women or plants...The Mehlem company stood in direct competition with the famous company of Villeroy & Boch in Mettlach and the Mehlem brothers tried to persuade the local government to grant them a special contract for cheaper coal from the state- but to no avail..In 1853, the company had to mourn the loss of when Paul Joseph Mehlem died ..On January 10th 1854, Everhard Joseph Mehlem applied for permission to build a seventh kiln, which was granted. At this time, the company already had 40 potter's wheels. It was the last expansion before Everhard Joseph Mehlem died in 1865, leaving the assets in the hands of a community of heirs with the name of Braubach & Kaeser...The word 'Royal' and the year '1755' was added to the company mark in 1890 and used until the company was sold to Villeroy & Boch in 1920... But the depression era took its toll and Villeroy & Boch decided to close the factory at the beginning of the year 1931 because it had become unprofitable. ..By the end of 1938, the factory of Franz Anton Mehlem was no more....

+++Due to this large size, will be double boxing for protection...Keep that in mind on the additional shipping fee price when bidding..+++
