Description

This pastel landscape demo is packed full of information and tips! If you want to discover tips for creating more expressive trees, shrubs and grasses, this demo is for you! I am pleased to share my approach to painting expressive and painterly landscapes with pastels on an easy to make homemade sanded surface in this PDF downloadable demo.

The subject of the demo is a landscape in early morning light. It has mountains, trees and shrubs. It has interesting light and shadows. I share tips for suggesting details of the landscape instead of copying the reference photo and overworking the painting.

This demo shows the development of the painting from the preparation of the surface to the selection of palette. I continue with a step by step description of the development of the painting. I talk about supplies, my techniques for making a sanded surface, the steps I take in developing the painting, how I paint the sky and mountains, trees, shrubs and more! I also provide my reference photo should you wish to follow along and paint your own version.

If you are looking to loosen up your paintings and learn techniques for suggesting elements in the landscape, consider my digital download!

The demo has 29 pages and 57 color photos, the biggest demo yet!

I like to paint demos. I really don't mind painting in front of a group and sharing what is going on in my head as a painting develops. I don't mind being interrupted with lots of question. The more the better. Sure not every demo is successful but I always try to make sure that the group learns something. I find that for a shy person I have a lot to say when it comes to talking about my passion.

I have been posting mini demos on my blog for the past two years. But they are condensed versions and don't quite compare to a real live demo. I have been wanting to find a way to share my demos with others without doing a video. I don't have the equipment for that. So when I discovered that Etsy offers sellers the ability to offer digital downloads I thought it would be the perfect way to share a more detailed demo in PDF form.

This download can be viewed on your computer or printed and stapled into a booklet. It includes my step by step approach to painting landscape complete with 35 full color photos and description of each step. I include information on my supplies as well as tips for painting grasses.

The demo is a pastel painting but I use the same approach to paint landscapes in oil and acrylic so the information will be helpful even if you don't use pastels!
