Description

When I began this tapestry bag, I wanted to use a palette that resembled a Delft tile. I chose blues and purples ranging from cobalt to denim and from plum to periwinkle. I placed the pattern over a ground of icy pastel blues and purples. Then, I found the perfect design to go with the colors--a quartet of medieval floor tiles. Once I plotted the design, I was excited to see the multiple secondary patterns that emerged.

I knit Delft Tote using the fair isle technique and then felted it. The result is a thick and sturdy felt. This bag has beautiful, handmade, black leather handles from Bittersweet Baskets and Homestead Handles. They are 24" in length--perfect for carrying over your shoulder. I lined this tote in a lovely, but sturdy, periwinkle and blue-green moire. Thick interfacing under the lining and plastic canvas at the bottom add additional support to the sides and base. There are also two interior pockets--a zipper pocket and a plain pocket. In addition, a swivel hook hangs from one side of the interior to attach your keys. Delft Tote stands 12" tall. It is 6.5" x 13" at the base and measures 18.5" across the top.
