Description

There is nothing quite like a mermaid, which embodies the living energy of the oceans, lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams that make up our world. They hearken through history and float in the flotsam of imagination. They are loved by generations and remain one of my most requested sculpts. Metal captures the fluidity of form so well, and it makes them unique, one-of-a-kind products.

Creating hand-wrapped sculptures means that each and every piece is special. I use a variety of wire types (standard metal colors, coated metals, and colored metals), body styles (straight, swimming, exploring, diving, etc.), and textures (twisted, flat, round). I often add found objects or upcycled items to the works as well, which allows for additional customization. Those who place orders can request certain items be added if the sculpture is a gift. I will do my best to oblige!

The base of the sculptures are aluminum wire. The textured and colored wires are woven as layers on top of the aluminum. The use of space and lighter-weight metals does make the piece viable to hang pretty much anywhere. Many of these are bought and utilized specifically as Christmas ornaments, but can also be utilized as art (wall mounted or suspended for full viewing). I have had some of the mermaids framed into a 3-D wall mount, or sewn onto a canvas. The wrapped metal makes them both lightweight and highly durable. Size may vary in accordance to the piece; this size, which I consider medium, is usually 12 - 16 inches in length. If you see a piece that you like above I can try to replicate it, but it will not be exactly the same.

The process: I want the person who orders the piece to be involved with the piece -- it is your art, after all. I will usually (though not always) do two mermaid basic sculpts at a time and allow the purchaser to select the body they prefer. I also send final images in case of any additional changes that need to be made before shipping. I do communicate well through email, usually with a response rate of under 24 hours, and a piece can be ready to ship a week or less after ordering.

Available wire colors include bronze, silver, black, gold, green, red, copper, brown, teal, blue, orange, and yellow. Inquire about other colors.
