This ring features a higher quality transparent African emerald (earth-mined, not synthetic!) set in a minimalist 'solitaire' style solid 14 karat gold band.

The emerald was ethically earth-mined in the Republic of Zambia and is 100% natural - meaning, that no chemical treatment processes have been applied to enhance its natural colour or clarity. It measures 4.95mm in diameter and weighs a fraction under half a carat. Technically it would be graded 'VSI' for clarity. 'VSI' is an assay term used to describe a gem that contains almost no internal imperfections in its crystal matrix - just a few pepper grain spots deep within that would be visible with a microscope or jeweller's loupe. You can just make these out in the x400% macro photos for the listing. To the naked eye however the gem's internal clarity appears close to flawless.

The hue is a pale-to-medium seafoam green, very slightly bluish, and containing plenty of the sharp vitreous luster that quality African emeralds are prized for. It's a well cut stone too. The facet proportions and symmetry are neat and the surfaces are unblemished.

The handmade band is solid 14 karat yellow gold. It's a sleek minimalist design that aims to showcase this delightful little emerald without overwhelming it. The band measures a uniform 2mm (wide) x 1mm (thick) and the finished ring weighs a comfortable 1.6 grams.

Please note that the 6-prong crown that holds the emerald is a 'high-rise' style that assures the top surface of the gem rests a good 6mm above the top of the finger. I do have an alternative design though, one featuring a more compact profile (only 4mm elevation) if you'd prefer a lower-profile design.

As with all Salon Petite rings, both the prong tips and band edges have been micro-polished to limit the chances of the metalwork catching in hair or on clothing, and to assure that the ring slips easily on and off the finger.

Presentation for the ring includes a hinge-lid gift box lined with Japanese Unryu papers. Unryu is a handmade designer paper that contains strands of plant fiber for colour and contrast - very pretty. Dressing up my jewellery for display and gift-giving is one of my favourite parts of the Etsy process.
