Description

Buy your signed copy from the author. This 160-page, best-selling craft title has recently gone out of print, but I was able to get the remaining copies from the publisher at a discount, and happy to pass the savings onto you; selling at 1$ under Amazon – how often is that possible!

The third book, Chain and Bead Jewelry Geometric Connections was published by Watson-Guptill in November 2010. This instructive book utilizes a wide range of chain patterns and bead-setting techniques to create a variety of geometric and organic designs. We cover the basics of metal wire, gemstone beads, jump ring sizes, simple hand tools, and the essential techniques you'll need to master jump ring assembly; setting headpin beads, forging S-clasps, crafting magnetic clasps, and bending earring backs. These skills will be put into practice as Byzantine chain sections are assembled into Romanov pairs, offset Serrated (shown), and a Triple Byzantine chain patterns. We will then explore the three-pointed Tripoli formation, which will serve as the base component for the following geometric shape chapters. We will assemble three Tripolis into a Triangle (shown), then a Double Triangle, concluding with the beaded Incan Triangle design. Next we will use four Tripolis into a square Quatrefoil, unraveled into the Ocean design (cover), and trimmed into the Trapezoid series. Finally we will use five Tripolis into a Pentagon (shown), Double Pentagon, and Pentagram designs. Balancing the geometric is a final chapter of organic designs, assembling chain lengths into the Fish (shown), Snowflake, and the elusive Butterfly designs.

Real Customer Testimonials:

Great book for a new jewelery artist! My daughters and I are excited to make a few projects out of this book! I went online to his website and ordered the kits for earrings and a braclet set for one of the projects and am looking forward to completing them! I have not seen his first two books, but I can still complete the simplier designs in this book - just fine!! The book has a lot of step-by-step pictures for each project and goes into details about how he shines up his finished projects! We are looking forward to wearing our jewelery as soon as we make the earrings and bracelet! I would recommend this book to everyone! -Abstract Artist

This book is an excellent resource and teaching guide. The ideas and the descriptions given are clear and easy to understand. I bought the first book Scott David Plumlee wrote and was so pleased and excited about the ideas, new projects and gaining new information that prior to finishing the "Handcrafting Chain and Bead Jewelry" I went on line and ordered the next set of books and again was not disappointed. He work is worth every dime. I have been making jewelry for many years and just became intrigued with Chain Mail in the past year. I have spent a great deal of time researching Chain Maille on line, at shows, reading jewelry magazines and buying books and normally I have been disappointed with the information provided or have found that the information has been lacking. You will find that Scott David Plumlee book's are clear and he is very generous with information, ideas and patterns. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I have. - Jo Longing

Pssst - are you still reading this? Wanna hear a joke? I swear its clean!

Question: What is a pirate's favorite restaurant

Answer: Arrrrrrrrrrby's - ha, ha, ha. What's your favorite pirate joke?

ABOUT ARTIST
Hello, my name is Scott David Plumlee and I started handcrafting original chain jewelry designs back in 1995, while living at the Appalachian Center for Crafts. You may know my jewelry style from the five book and three video educational series on handcrafting beaded chain jewelry, dozens of magazine articles and leading hundreds of instructional workshops nationwide. Although I am no longer teaching jewelry classes, I do have over sixty downloadable PDF tutorials of original jewelry projects that you can make at home, with guidance to source supplies, tools, and lots of free tutorials at: www.davidchain.com.

ABOUT PROCESS
Chain Maille is an ancient technique used in the middle ages to link individual rings into wearable garments to serve as body armor protection. Today, chain making is typically used to create beautiful earrings, bracelets, and pendant designs that are uniquely strong yet flexible. I handcraft each chain design from scratch, starting with round metal wire that is wrapped onto a mandrel into a long coil. Each coil is then saw-cut into individual rings, which are then assembled with simple hand tools into a variety of chain patterns. The finished chain is then chemically cleaned, polished in a rotary tumbler, oven dried, and then hand-polished with a specialized tarnish-preventive Renaissance wax.

ABOUT MATERIALS
I use a variety of round metal wires; including copper, brass, silver-filled, sterling silver, and 14k gold-filled. I specifically use Argentium sterling silver wire to handcraft the shepherd’s hook earring backs, as many people with metal allergies can wear this advanced version of sterling silver. I employ a variety of semi-precious gemstone beads that are the best quality by color and clarity. Note that there may be a slight color variation in the gemstones you receive from those shown, due to the nature of using natural stones.

ABOUT COMMISSIONS
I am currently not accepting any jewelry commission requests, as I do not have a jewelry studio at the moment because I am in Bangkok working on a novel. However, if you can review my past artwork at: www.davidchain.com/commission.html.
