The packaging for your candle is always as eco-friendly as possible. Green paper wrap is used to protect candles, and butcher paper is used as a void fill. All elements of packaging can be recycled, and plastics are never used.

The youngest worker bees make the beeswax from glands on their abdomen, from which workers construct the honeycomb. These glands produce wax droplets, which harden into flakes when exposed to air. The workers must work the wax flakes in their mouths to soften them into a workable construction material. Beeswax is a byproduct of processing honey and is removed from the hive to access the honey.

Beeswax is an all-natural product brought to us by some of the world's hardest workers. It is the only wax that is found in nature. Beeswax candles are smokeless and may even emit negative ions while burning to purify the air. These negative ions work to attach themselves to positive ions in the air, which are typically attached to dust, mold, and other harmful pollutants. Beeswax candles are especially great for people that suffer from allergies, migraines, fragrance sensitivity, and for people with small children or pets.

Paraffin wax is derived from crude oil sludge; basically, the unusable substance left behind in the oil barrel. It is then bleached and chemically treated to give it a more "pleasant appearance." When you burn paraffin wax, you burn an oil by-product in your home, nasty toxins and all. This is why frequently, you will notice black soot stains if you burn a candle too close to a wall. The toxins emitted from paraffin candles have been compared to diesel fumes, and that doesn't include the cocktail of fragrances and dyes your burning either.

Beeswax candles will burn longer than paraffin and soy candles. Beeswax is incredibly dense and has a high melting point. Therefore, it takes a lot more time to burn through a beeswax candle. You'll notice on other candles you can easily carve through the wax with your fingernail, and it has an oily texture. Beeswax is very smooth and extremely tough to dig into by comparison.

It takes thousands and thousands of bees to produce the wax for even one candle. Paraffin candles are made simply from a waste by-product instead of one of nature's true beauties. Therefore, beeswax is more expensive to purchase since it is less readily available.

Natural yellow beeswax is sourced from my family's apiary in Central New York and other local beekeepers.

Ivory beeswax is sourced from the United States; however, it is not derived from the same yellow beeswax. Generally, removing the color from beeswax can only be done on a commercial level due to equipment costs.
