Item details

Handmade

Materials

cotton, yarn, bone

This ethically sourced piece of wild goat bone has been encased in soft crochet for a truly unique and unusual statement ring.

The bone feature is lightweight and the flexible crochet band is comfortable, firm and secure on ring sizes 5 through 7 (US).

This gorgeous statement ring is the perfect accessory for any girl who loves lace, romance & curiosities.

~ Size & Care ~
The bone feature on this unique cocktail ring is about 2.5cm x 3cm (1" x 1.5") and just over 2cm tall at its highest point. The ring band is stretchy and will fit ring sizes from a US 5 through 7s. (My finger pictured fits it very comfortably and is US 6.) Check your size here: http://www.ringsizes.co

This crochet jewellery is not washable as the lacquer protecting the bone is water based.

~ About this bone ~
The bone is most likely the distal end of the tibia (lower leg bone), but I found it already separated. Wild goats are a non-protected, feral species in Australia. This animal was already deceased and I found its dry bones, which were beginning to decay. I then thoroughly cleaned it, including a hydrogen peroxide bath. To protect this particular piece from further wear, I've varnished it with a water-based polyurethane coating.

If your country has strict quarantine or customs laws (eg. New Zealand), please research your country's regulations before purchasing a shell, bone, tooth or other animal by-product item.

- For jewellery items, I'm happy to sell to any country as the item is packaged and presented as costume jewellery, however you do take the risk that it will be inspected and confiscated by your own customs.

- For larger bones, I may only sell to particular countries that I know allow you to import these items. If I haven't listed your country and you believe there'll be no problem (or you have a permit), please don't hesitate to get in touch!

I only work with animal by-products from feral/livestock/domestic species, such as wild dog, pig, goat, cow, rabbit etc. The parts I use from these animals are legal to possess, process and sell, as well as to export without requiring a permit.

Although we do have industries producing kangaroo skins or emu oil (and these can be exported), the average person is not allowed to collect, possess, process or sell native animals or animal parts.
