Pioneer Chairs is a small family business. Our wood and rope folding chairs are handcrafted by a member of our family in our post & beam workshop in New Hampshire, USA. Our chairs & hassocks are for Indoor & Outdoor Use. They are therapeutic, sustainable, fold for easy transport, and fold for easy storage. We have been featured in InStyle & The New Yorker and in Montreal's, La Presse, Canada's largest french daily newspaper.

OUTDOOR USE: Decks, Docks, Patios, Lawns, Rooftops
Pioneer Chairs are made with unfinished Ash & African Mahogany wood. Because these types of wood contain a high amount of oil, they are naturally weather-resistant and maintain their integrity under exposure to the elements. We recommend moving Pioneer Chairs & Hassocks inside during rain/ snow to slow the weathering process however, many of our customers leave them outside all year round. As they weather, Ash turns a beautiful golden color and African Mahogany turns an elegant silvery-gray. The rope we use is UV and rot-resistant, so it holds up just as well as the wood.

THERAPEUTIC: Relieve Low Back Pain
The therapeutic property of the Pioneer Chair was the inspiration behind the design. Jim Millar, cofounder of Pioneer Chairs, suffered from herniated lumbar disks and low back pain and he realized that sitting with his knees higher than his hips, took pressure off his back and relieved the pain. Our chairs are endorsed by a certified Sports Medicine Chiropractor for this reason.

Folding for easy storage, many customers, especially those in small apartments, campers, and tiny homes, like to keep their Pioneer Chairs & Hassocks in closets or even, under beds while they are on the road or until guests come over. Second home owners can easily bring their chairs out to the decks and lawns when they arrive. A Pioneer Chair is 6" when folded.

Our wood is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified and provided by our local friends in Massachusetts. The Forest Stewardship Council's mission is to provide environmentally sound and socially beneficial management of the world's forests.

ABOUT THE WOOD:
Ash is a durable, light-colored hardwood from New England, historically used in baseball bat and billy club manufacturing. African Mahogany contains various hues of red, and is a popular choice for fine furnishings and boat manufacturing.

Return Policy: If within the first 14 days of receiving your chair and/or table, you are not 100% satisfied, we are happy to accept your return. Providing top-quality furniture and customer satisfaction are our top priorities. Within 14 days of general use, chairs break-in and minor wear and tear or stains are expected. Since, all our products are issued brand new, we charge a 20% restocking in order to refurbish to new condition. This fee is in addition to return shipping costs.
