Description

We had so much fun working on this confection of a pattern for a bibbed-and-banded apron, ruffly pinafore and thoroughly adorable — not to mention crazy easy — doll-sized oven mitt.

Modern 18" girls will love these aprons, and so will your historical dolls. Nineteenth century girls like Addy® or Kirsten® would have worn calico versions, while an early 20th century girl like Samantha® might have worn a crisp white pinafore. Depression era Kit® surely had a functional version, while Molly® could accessorize her WWII-rationed outfits with pretty, patriotic aprons. And of course, 1970s Julie® would wear her wildly popular "prairie style" pinafore while watching that hot new Wednesday night show, Little House On The Prairie.

Our easy-to-make VIEW A APRON features an above-knee length skirt that wraps halfway around the body, with a pretty patch pocket on one side that's deep enough to stash a wooden spoon or handkerchief. The separately seamed and lined shoulder bands allow for a snug fit — and also offer opportunity for fun color-blocking and trim insertion. Directions are included for a square edged or optional curved-edge and trimmed skirt.

The VIEW B PINAFORE offers terrific bang for your sewing buck with a below-knee length skirt that wraps nearly all the way around, and lined shoulder bands that extend into graceful slash-and gather ruffles.

Accessorize your apron or pinafore with our super easy OVEN MITT, featuring a unique construction technique that finishes the edge and creates a realistic-looking faux binding in one easy step. If you sell at craft fairs, you are going to love this pattern — even non-doll people will want these adorable mitts as Christmas tree ornaments!

The OVEN MITT and VIEW A APRON are rated EASY while the VIEW B PINAFORE is rated EASY/INTERMEDIATE for the slash-and-gather ruffle insertion — a technique that, once learned, you may find yourself adding to other patterns where an organic, graceful fullness is preferable to the hard edge of a seamed-in ruffle. In our pinafore, the slash-and-gather ruffle emerges from the shoulder band in an unbroken curve for a unique touch that will make your aprons that much more special. As usual, Lee & Pearl's photo-illustrated directions and computer-drafted, guaranteed-to-fit-together pattern pieces make every step as easy as possible.
