Description

Vintage Miramar of California casserole dish with lid on carrier stand. White ceramic with brown Asian motif lid with bamboo stalk and leaf pattern in high relief. Marked "© Miramar of Calif Ovenproof 306." The base is a brass color metal with medium brown wood handles. Clean lines and great coloring.

DIMENSIONS:
Stand, handle to handle: 12 in.
Casserole: 7 1/2 in. diameter; height, including lid and finial, about 4 in.; on stand, about 5 in.
Capacity: 2 1/2 cups

HISTORY: Miramar of California was one of many pottery-making companies in California, some of which began operating in the late 1800s and are still in production today. According to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_pottery

"California pottery includes industrial, commercial, and decorative pottery produced in the Northern and Southern regions of the state of California. Production includes brick, sewer pipe, architectural terra cotta, tile, garden ware, tableware, kitchenware, art ware, figurines, giftware, and ceramics for industrial use. Ceramics include terra cotta, earthenware, porcelain, and stoneware products.
The history of California pottery includes Spanish settlers, the advent of statehood and population growth, the Arts and Crafts movement, Great Depression, World War II era and the onslaught of low-priced mass-produced imports. California potters, large and small, have left a legacy of collectibles, art, and architecture."

Miramar of California, located in Los Angeles, was in business in the 1950s and 1960s; therefore, their wares aren't as readily available as those produced by companies with more longevity.

CONDITION: Excellent. No chips or cracks. There are three flaws which occurred in production where the white glaze is missing: two along the rim and one on the bottom (zoom on pictures #2, #3 and #5). Minor crazing on the bottom, and on the inside after being wet, and a couple of very light scratches on lid. None of this detracts.

Retro décor, minimalist décor, vintage tableware, zen décor.
