Five Parrots: Lost Cave Paintings of Saint Paul

Original Painting

I imagine and excavate the Lost Cave Paintings of Saint Paul from the comfort of my living room studio, which, unlike real caves, is free of rats and bats, isn't subject to cave-ins, and is a place where I won't be arrested for trespass as I would in the actual caves in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The painting is made on primed aluminum, which makes it very light. The first layer of a cave painting is tinted gesso to create the "cave wall." After that, I paint the creatures with watercolor, and then I cover the entire piece with archival spray.

This piece is 12x36" and it is framed.
