Description

Ikat weaving is a complex technique which involves dyeing the strands of silk (or cotton, if that is the material) before weaving and upon completion of the weaving process, the design is formed. Needless to say it involves much planning and is a carefully structured technique that does not allow for random patterning, unless it was carefully planned beforehand.

This textile was made in Maharashtra, in western India sometime in the second quarter of the 20th century. Undoubtedly it is a fragment of a larger piece, possibly a sari of some sort. But in its present form, it is extremely decorative, a pleasant 'picture' for the wall.

Shipping costs are predicated upon sending it mounted with the wooden frame over which the linen on to which the textile has been sewn. Without the wooden mount, the cost of sending it is reduced considerably, i.e.. US - $20, European Union - $55
