Daily painting for January 13, 2015. 6x8, Oil on board.

Kabocha squash tend to have a muted green-grey pattern on the outside, and a bright orange on the inside. I split this one, and before making Kabocha soup, painted it, along with the knife that I used to split it. I just love that contrast of colors between the inside and outside, it reminds me how people tend to be - on way on the outside and completely different once you get to know them.

This kitchen painting was done from life using the highest quality oil paints. I paint alla prima, meaning wet on wet, usually in one session. This gives the paint a vibrant, rich and fresh feel. This painting will add a add a splash of color to any modern or rustic kitchen or any other room in your home.

This original painting is unframed, and would look great in a simple dark or gold frame. There is a small loop on the back so you could hang the painting unframed as well. Artwork is signed and dated on the front.

Owning original, one-of-a-kind art is uniquely rewarding experience. We are all used to seeing thousands of images every day. We scroll through miles of instagram pictures without pausing on them for more than a second. This painting was lovingly created over a span of hours, and it invites the viewer to slow down and appreciate it for a longer period of time. And don’t we all need to slow down once in a while? Especially at home.
