Description

This is the first purchase you should make when considering making an off-loom rya rug. You will receive more colors than imaginable. I also will send you a selection of backing swatches that I currently have available--three at the moment, and a detailed and informative price list of supplies I have on hand to send to you.

In June 2016, I purchased Frostagarn, a vintage rya type of yarn from Sweden--great for weaving and rya. It is available at a discounted rate with additional discounts for larger purchases. Samples of these yarns are now added to your samples packet here at no additional cost to you.

The sample cards are:
1. Rauma Ryegarn
2. Rauma Prydvevgarn
3. Borgs Frostagarn from Sweden produced in the heyday of off-loom rya rug-making 1960-80
4. Lundgren Rya (USA) three cards of samples
5. Borgs Åsborya (Sample cards are made by my friends and me and unavailable anywhere else.) NOTE: During MARCH -April 2018, I am closing out my Åsborya supply of Swedish yarns. Learn more at this listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/595720519/close-out-prices-on-swedish-rya-yarn

The Prydvevgarn is very exciting. It is the same heritage breed sheep fleece as the Rauma Ryegarn, but it is thinner and you get 300 M on the skein. It can be blended with the ryegarn for an amazing texture and color range.

I help people get started on rya projects. Over the past few years, I have bought back my grandparents' family business called Lundgren Rya which had been sold out of the family for over thirty years! I have lots of Lundgren yarn. I am a supplier of Rauma of Norway rya yarn and 26 different sized wool and linen backings. I also am a supplier of Swedish Asborya yarn. And finally I have some Finnish rya backings to share with you. (not to mention an odd assortment of many rya yarns from companies that are no longer in business.)

The three-card Lundgren samples now has about 40% blank holes due to having sold out of many colors. But I have plenty of most of the colors displayed, and what is gone from the Lundgren cards has a pretty good substitution from the Norwegian and Swedish sample cards.

Now, when you buy my samples to help you decide what to order for your needlework, you get everything including a variety of backing samples. I include a 4-page letter and price list with descriptions.

$15 is a true bargain for the number of hours it takes to prepare these samples of approx. 250 colors for you. I think you will agree that they are invaluable.

I'm here to help you make the best off-loom rya possible. I am a one-woman operation, so I do see your comments and requests. If you say, "Melinda, help me calculate the right amount of yarn for a rya backing 80 x 120 cm, and I need to cut costs where possible," I can help you with your needs in mind. This is what I do. I would be happy to "sub in" less expensive colors when there is a good color match at a lesser price. I carry no "bad yarn" so trust that any yarn you get is worth considering. Of course if you buy these sample, you can judge for yourself.
