Description

The image that sits under the 12mm glass cabochon on this quality silver plated bangle is of the planet Earth. The result is to slightly magnify the planet which enhances the overall effect. The bangle comes in a fine jewellery box with a small high quality photo card which has a description of the planet on the reverse. As this bangle is open ended this has a certain amount of flexibility allowing it to fit most wrist sizes.

Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun and is the largest of the terrestrial planets. It was formed approximately 4.54 billion years ago, and the name comes from the Anglo -Saxon word erda, which means ground or soil.
The Earth's rotation is gradually slowing at a rate of approx. 17 milliseconds per 100 years, but the deceleration is so slow that it could be as much as 140 million years before a day lasts 25 hours!
The Earth was once believed to be at the centre of the universe - ancient scientists insisted that the Earth remained static while other celestial bodies travelled in circular orbits around it. This view changed when in the 16th century Copernicus stated that the sun was at the centre. It wasn't until the 1920's that Edwin Hubble proved that our Earth is part of a galaxy that is only one of billions of others in the Universe.
