Highlights

For sale is a beautiful pearl necklace with an antique/vintage diamond clasp. I inherited the necklace from a family member but sadly, it is not something I ever wear so I have decided to sell it. Would be a wonderful gift for someone who loves pearls and diamonds!

Details:
Triple strand cultured AKOYA pearls with diamond clasp. 141 cultured salt water pearls total; size ranges from 7 mm to 8.5 mm. They display a medium cream color with a few tending to silver. The luster is described by the appraiser as "good medium appearance." The surface character is "generally moderate with a few tending to slightly heavy." The bead matching is generally good. The pearls display a heavy, superior degree of nacre thickness, averaging 3/10 mm to 5/10 mm with a good many reaching 5/10 mm (today's nacre thickness tends to be only about 1/10 mm).

The clasp is made of white gold in the 14 karat range. The clasp is modern but the diamonds are antique, estimated to have been cut in the 1890s. The major diamond set in the clasp is described by the appraiser as "a rare and unusual gem, of an apparently singular nature." It is of a lapidary shaping , also known as a "calf-head's" cut. The weight, based in part on the diamond's measurements, is estimated to be 1.28 carat. Clarity is in the first pique range and coloration is champagne. There is some girdle chippage, which is typical for an antique diamond. It is a bit loose in its setting. Sixteen antique double cut ("old European") diamonds frame the center diamond, also estimated to have been cut in the late 1800s. Total weight of these diamonds is approximately 0.64 carat. They are near colorless and are SI/I.

The necklace measures 16.5" end to end; the drop length is 8.5"
