Description

Two packs of 5 Schmetz Topstitch sewing machine needles, system 130 N, one pack of size 80/12 and one pack of size 90/14. Size 90 is slightly thicker than size 80. I like to have both sizes on hand, the thinner size 80 is often better for light weight fabric.

Topstitch needles are specialty needles, great for decorative threads and for free motion embroidery, this needle is also easy to thread, notice the second photo and the topstitch needle eye on the left is longer than the others.

Topstitch needles are so much easier to thread because their eye is so much larger. If you have a hard time threading a needle the topstitch needles will help.

For other needles and thread go to shop section:

New people to sewing often are confused about needles. Most modern home sewing machines use the system 130/705H also called a 15x1 needle or standard needle. It has a flat side shank.

Vintage and antique sewing machines may use a different needle system, may be longer than the standard needle or have a round shank at the top. If a machine does not have the correct needle and if that needle is not inserted correctly the machine will not sew. Most newer machines require the needle be inserted with the flat side to the back. A vintage machine may need the flat side to the left or right, depends on the machine and where the hook picks up the loop.
