pyrite, other mineral matrix

We recently received a selection of OUTSTANDING pyrite crystal clusters from Peru at a very reasonable price. Peru is well known for producing some of the highest quality pyrite in the world and these pieces are the epitome of Peruvian production. In 40+ years I've never seen any that were shinier.

Here's a link to a video I made on You Tube showing off these pieces. The photos just don't capture how much they sparkle so check this out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8r_Tbj0fTA

On average these pieces weigh between 80 and 120 grams with some as heavy as 160 grams and some a bit lighter. Every piece is ultra shiny, bright yellow-gold in color. Sizes average around 2 to 2-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 to 2 inches. In general I refer to them as "golf ball sized" but that's a very rough approximation. When you see how brilliant these pieces are it's easy to understand how they could have been mistaken for gold in days gone by, hence the common nickname "Fool's Gold".

Note that wooden stands are no longer available for purchase.

You will receive one specimen randomly chosen from our inventory. Every piece has the classic cubic crystals that are part of what makes pyrite so unique and distinctive. Some have larger crystal structures, some smaller, most a mix of both. We tried to include photos of a variety of samples so you can see what you may get. I also see some dodecahedral and modified cubic crystal structures on a few samples. A couple of the pieces include some matrix inclusions in white or black. It's hard to identify the inclusions but I suspect the white stuff is either limestone, quartz, or calcite depending upon the piece. The black stuff could easily be another iron compound like Marcasite or another dark mineral. One piece I studied looked like it could possibly be Galena crystals. It's very difficult to ID the matrix so it can be a fun project for you!

If you are interested in a specimen with matrix include a note with your order and will get back to you with availability and a photo if possible. Also if you have a preference for larger or smaller crystals note that in your order as well. We probably won't be able to accommodate every request but we will do our best to get you the piece you want. The sooner you order the more likely you are to get what you'd like as we expect these to start to sell quickly due to the high quality and low price.

Now some detail on pyrite:

Composition: Iron Sulfide with possible traces of cobalt, nickel, silver, and gold
Hardness: Moh's 6 - 6.5
Crystal System: Isometric
Luster: Metallic (these are super shiny)
Specific Gravity: 4.9 - 5.2

Metaphysical properties: grounding, protection, creativity, good luck, wealth

Not safe for ingestion or use in aquariums. Not recommended for use in other animal enclosures.
