Description

The ancient Egyptians placed a high value on order, balance, and ethical behavior - qualities that no doubt contributed to the remarkable stability of ancient Egyptian civilization. These concepts were personified in the goddess Maat (or Ma'at), who was often depicted as a seated woman crowned with a single ostrich feather. Maat was seen as the force that brought order to the universe, supervising the passage of the seasons and guiding the movement of the stars.

Maat also embodied the concepts of justice and truth. The ancient Egyptians believed that after death, the heart of the deceased would be weighed against Maat's feather. If the heart was burdened with a lifetime of wrongdoing, the soul of the deceased would be fed to the terrifying monster Ammut, but if the heart was light, the good nature of the deceased was proven and he or she was permitted to continue into the afterlife.

My Feather of Maat pendant, based on ancient examples from temple carvings and papyri, is cast in sterling silver using the lost wax method. Wear it as a reminder to go through life with a light heart, or give it as a special gift to someone who brings order and balance to your world.

• Pendant measures 15/16" (24 mm) high
• Cast in sterling silver from a hand-carved original model
• Includes your choice of 16", 18", or 20" sterling cable chain

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Please note that orders shipped to countries outside of the United States may be subject to import taxes, customs duties, and fees levied by the government of the destination country. You may be required to pay these charges upon delivery of your order.

Customs policies vary widely from country to country and are subject to frequent changes, so you may want to check with your local customs office for more information before ordering. Also, customs procedures may cause delays beyond the estimated delivery date. I cannot guarantee delivery of international orders by a specific date. Although most orders arrive within 7 to 14 days, I strongly recommend allowing at least 21 days for delivery and customs clearance if you need your order in time for a special occasion.

The full value of the order will be declared on the customs form. Please note that I cannot mark the item as a "gift"; this is not possible when using Etsy's shipping system, and it is a violation of Federal law.

I have no control over, or any way of predicting, the customs fees and procedures of the destination country.

Thanks for your understanding, and I truly appreciate your business!

Returns and exchange details
I want you to be happy with your purchase. If something is amiss, please let me know and I will do my best to make it right.

If you want to make an exchange or return, please contact me as soon as possible upon receipt of your order. To receive a full refund, your item must be returned in its original packaging and in the same condition that it left the studio. Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.

I take pride in the quality and craftsmanship of all my work, and each piece that leaves the studio must therefore be as good as I can make it. I guarantee all of my jewelry against damage or breakage due to flaws in materials or workmanship, and will repair or replace any defective piece. This doesn't, of course, cover damage resulting from unusual abuse (say, dropping your pendant into the garbage disposal). While fine jewelry should be treated with a certain amount of care, all of my pieces are made to last for generations.
