Description

I have made many full sized wildlife sculptures. Here are but a few examples of what can be done with sheet metal, an English Wheel, and some resolve.

These pieces are all one of a kind. In fact, I doubt I could duplicate one if I wanted to. The forms are very organic and flowing, even the sharp lines of the feathers appear soft. The initial hard shine is softened by a gorgeous natural patina of rust. I never "force-rust" any of my steel sculptures with chemicals, as I much prefer mother nature's brush. These generally take a couple years outside to reach their desired appearance. Then I like to clean them well and apply a few coats of wax. This basically "locks" the patina into its current state. The wax soaks into the rust like stain soaks into a dry old piece of cherry. While it is not a "sealant" in the sense that paint or powder coat is, it actually can be quite effective. Wax has been used for centuries to protect metals.

The first 2 pictures are of a pair of Sandhill Cranes. Full scale, approx 5 feet tall. The third and fourth are a sculpture consisting of 3 life-size deer. This sculpture is 22 feet long and about 9 feet tall in the middle.

The fifth picture is a wild turkey sculpt that is currently available.

Because drainage is designed into these pieces, there are no water traps that will rust out. Think of an old car that has been out in the elements for 70-80 years. Much of it is still intact, especially parts that can dry between soakings. The rusted-away portions are places that trap water, or are in contact with the ground. These sculptures are made with essentially the same steel as those old cars, 16 or 18 gauge mild steel.

I cannot realistically predict how long anything steel will last outside, but I would like to think these pieces should last 50 years or more, outside, with minimal care.

Pieces like this range from $4000 up to $30,000. Contact me here for a free quote on any project you can dream up.

Etsy requires that I put something in the "shipping price" box, but any of these projects will have unique shipping requirements. These can all be worked out in the purchase agreement, and include Common Courier, FedEx or UPS, and even delivery and installation is a possibility.

Shipping policies

Shipping is generally done via USPS Priority Mail. If you see a "$7.00 Shipping" cost, that indicates it will be sent Priority Mail. International orders (where applicable) will be sent First Class International. Larger sculptures are handled on a case by case. Often, I will deliver larger pieces and install them myself, for an additional fee. Meeting half way is another option. Convo me for any questions. (See note about international shipping on the "Additional Information" tab.)

Additional policies

International Shipping Notes: While I do ship to some overseas destinations, any duties, tariffs, import charges, etc are the responsibility of the buyer. Items are sometimes put on hold at the post office in your country for various reasons. There is nothing I can do about this. I cannot pre-pay, estimate, or even accurately guess what and when these charges will be applied. Your post office/parcel company will notify you when these holds do take place.

Known numbers as of fall 2018:
The UK can charge up to 44% of the declared value as import duties.
Germany can charge up to 17% of the declared value as import duties.
Belgium import duties are going to run you about 45% of the declared value.
Australia charges an additional 25% for import duties/tariffs.
Other numbers will be updated as they are known. Please check with your local Customs Office for more up to date information.
