Description

Blend of 80% Merino wool and 20% bleached tussah silk in Johnny Jump-Up

4+oz/113+g
Photos are the actual fiber you will receive. Last photo is an example of a 2-ply yarn spun in this colorway.

Merino has long been a world standard for softness in wool, but is not a very durable fiber, inclined to pill, and not good for items that will receive a lot of wear or abrasion, such as mittens/gloves or socks . Silk is very smooth, strong, and soft, with wonderful drape, but it has little elasticity, and pure silk can be very heavy in thicker yarns. Blending these two fibers gives us some of the best qualities of both. The merino gives the silk some elasticity, and reduces the weight relative to the thickness of the yarn. The silk adds luster, drape, and strength, giving us a yarn that will hold up better under abrasion (such as the heel of a sock in a shoe) than pure merino.

This is a good choice for people who normally find wool "itchy," and will make more durable socks and mittens. It is an excellent choice for shawls, scarves, and cowls.

This product was produced in a smoke-free house.

Please bear in mind that although I go to great lengths to represent the color as accurately as I can, all monitors display color differently.
