Description

Hello:

Isn't this an elegant tea cup and saucer? There is a lot of detail in this set made by Sterling China of Japan, circa 1940's.

Tea Cup: Tea cup stands 3 inches tall and the opening diameter is 3 1/2 inches. The inside of the tea cup is mother-of-pearl lusterware finish, with one gold leaf scroll pattern just at the rim. The footed portion of the cup is white porcelain with gold trim. The bottom part of the tea cup has a gold band which separates the more ivory tone of the top part of the cup. The upper portion of the cup has beautiful black and gold medallion shapes. The pattern is hard to describe, so check out the pictures for details. The gold of the medallions is raised in moriage style dots and outlining. Between the medallions there are tree like fine gold designs around the rim of the cup. The handle is painted a solid gold.

Saucer: The saucer measures 5 1/4 inches in an 8 sided squared off shape. The center circle is mother-of-pearl lusterware. The perimeter of the saucer is the soft ivory color. The design echoes that of the tea cup. Saucer has open cut work triangles at the four corners.

This set is in good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. There is one area on tea cup that is slightly grayed. You can see this in picture # 1, just above and to the right of the medallion.

This tea cup set is the picture of elegance and grace. So pretty for display or to use on special occasions. Nice item for a collector.
