This is a small art quilt made with my hand-painted cottons and commercial-print skulls from the Alexander Henry "Cabeza" fabric line. Shapes were cut freehand and fused to a painted background fabric. Then I "drew" over the whole piece using free-motion stitching on my sewing machine to add details and hold each little piece in place. The raw-edge applique mini-quilt is finished with an eyelash yarn border blanket-stitched with contrasting thread.

This is one of a set of five art quilts that I made for the 14th annual Dia de los Muertos exhibit at the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene, Oregon, where they were displayed in October and November 2007. This piece was also in the show "Books Unbound" at the Marian Gallery, Mount Mary College, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in November 2010.

Size with the fringed border is approx. 4.5 x 6.5 inches. There is a printed quilt label on back, which is also signed and dated. There is both a sleeve and a loop on the back of the quilt so that it can be hung on a dowel or a hook. You could also frame it for display.

Please note: You are buying a piece of original art but not the right to reproduce that art in anyway. The artist retains copyright.
