Stoneware is a nonporous, nontranslucent pottery, that is fired at a high temperature. It is hard enough to resist scratching, but differs from porcelain, because it is more opaque.

In DankoHandmade we fire stoneware pottery twice. Bisque firing is around 900 °C, and glost firing (the firing used to form the glaze over the ware) - 1180–1280 °C.
Water absorption of stoneware products is less than 1 percent, which makes them safe to use in a dishwasher even with intensive programmes.

GLAZING
After the bisque firing the glazing process can begin. The glaze, a mixture of ground glass, clays, coloring materials and water, is applied to the bisque pot by dipping, pouring, spraying, brushing, sponging, or some combination of these techniques. The footring of each piece must be free of glaze and the pot placed to a bisque fired 'cookie' made from a stoneware clay body. The pot is now ready for the glaze firing.

This was purchased as a gift for a Native American artist and his wife. When they received it in the mail they were absolutely delighted!! The unusual shape, the high quality craftsmanship were delightful. They showed me the items when we had a FaceTime chat and I could see how much they enjoyed them.
