Description

Editor's Note

To write about revenge means getting cozy with the fiery engine of being—that place that powers extreme thought, speech, and action. It means dealing with attachment to the idea that things would be better if— and plotting to bring that if to fruition. It means altering the path of a single situation even when doing so
means altering the course of everything. It means being willing to rewrite history, tamper with fate.

Seeing revenge for what it is means peeling back initial layers to examine undertones, rough sketches infinite with possibility—the beginning parts of a thing before the thing becomes sealed in emotion. It means seeing beneath the obviousness of suspense and comeuppance.

To write about revenge means admitting to emotions of fury or joy—even when fury frightens and joy indicates sadism—even when the victim becomes the monster. It means realizing that Lady Karma is overworked and taking matters into your own hands.

The writers in this volume have tapped into the nuances of relationship and human emotion. They have examined history and the lasting consequences of oppression. They have picked at the scabs of wounds that will never heal. They have exhibited humor; highlighted the highs of power and control; shown the
subtleties of brutality. In writing about revenge, these authors have told incredibly complex human stories.
