Description

This is a wonderful example of the fine work done by the people of Tanzania. This medicine statue is likely to have been an altar item that the diviner used to make contact with particular spirits or spirit. The bead work is tight and shows signs of many years of use. The measurements are 12" tall by 5" wide. Made of very hard wood, statue is heavy. Mwana hiti figures are found among a number of people in Tanzania. Mwana hiti are also called trunk figures and depict in a highy stylized way the torso of a female figure. The name has been translated as "daughter of the throne". The figure is said to be both male and female. Male because of the general phallic shape and female fecause of the breasts. Mawana hiti figures are given to a girl by her fathers sister when it is time for her to begin the seclusion as a part of her initiation.

This is great! A friend of mine suggested a clay foot cleaner and this is the one I chose. It's easy to hold, large, and works well. Shipping was very quick too.
