Ancient Snuff Bottle Chinese ceramic prints, about middle 19th century, Qing Dynasty and base signed.

Beautiful Chinese snuff bottle made of ceramic with flower patterns recorded at the surface by the artist in the middle 19th century, Qing Dynasty, and signed on the base.

Snuff Bottle:
The snuff was introduced by the Portuguese in the court of Beijing sometime in mid to late 16th century was originally smoked in pipes before the establishment of the Qing Dynasty. The use of snuff and snuff bottles spread through the upper class, and by the end of the 17th century had become a part of the social ritual of using snuff. This lasted for most of the 18th century Over time, the trend spread to the rest of the country and in all social classes. It was common to offer a pinch of snuff as a way to greet friends and relatives. Snuff Bottles soon became an object of beauty and a way to represent the state. The highest state was for the person who performed bottle rarest and finest snuff. The peak of production of snuff bottles was during the 18th century.
The use of snuff increases and decreases with the rise and fall of the Qing Dynasty and died shortly after the establishment of the Republic of China. However, they still are being made replica snuff bottles, and can be purchased in souvenir shops, flea markets and museum shops. Original snuff bottles from the Qing period are a desirable goal for serious collectors and museums. A good bottle has an extra quality besides their exquisite beauty and value: that is touch. Snuff bottles are valued in hand to touch so as a rule, have a nice tactile quality
