======================
Ceramics, which is one of the first industrial activities of man, has artistic qualities, and is considered art even in its initial development.
The numerous tribes and peoples, that lived in the lands where Bulgaria is, have left their rich cultural heritage. Through the ages the region has gathered different types of ceramics of Thracians, Romans, Slavs and Proto-Bulgarians. The proximity to the Mediterranean and its rich and diverse culture has influenced the development of Bulgarian crafts.
In DankoHandmade we embrace tradition by interpreting it in a modern way. Each of our product lines has its own style and character, but all of them carry the comfort and warmth of Bulgarian land.

The Process:
(Explore our shop for other stages of pottery making)

THROWING
Throwing clay is the process of using a rapidly rotating pottery wheel and other tools to form a lump of clay into a beautiful ceramic piece.
The procedure involves placing a lump of clay in the exact center of the wheel head, creating an opening in the exact center of the clay. The size of the opening is gradually increased and the sides are pulled up until a cylinder is formed. A sufficient amount of clay is left for the bottom of the piece. The sides and mouth of the piece are then shaped, and the piece is removed from the wheel. Once it dries to a leatherhard stage, the potter can then go about trimming away excess clay, adding handles, spouts or attachments, and carving, cutting, or re-shaping the piece. An experienced potter can make this process look easy, but it takes many years of dedication and long hours of practice to become efficient at throwing and creating balanced, beautiful pieces.

As I write this review on "DankoHandmade", I am enjoying a lovely cup of tea and cream. I purchased the regular mug and the smaller one as well. What first drew me in was the lovely pattern and the green and cream palette. I do think I may need to return to "DankoHandmade" for more!!

I always have wonderful experiences with this shop. I am slowly completing my full tea set of this pattern and couldn’t be happier with the quality of the pottery. Fully dish washer safe, I’ve had four mugs and a tea pot for years and they look like they did when I got them. Shipping was super fast - faster than many of my orders filled from the US!
