Handmade item

Eighteenth Century formal dress inspired by the ideas and designs of Magalie H. Dawson (MHD Designs).

By the 1770s the sack-back gown was second only to court dress in its formality. This style of gown had fabric at the back arranged in box pleats which fell loose from the shoulder. In front, the gown was open, showing off a decorative stomacher and petticoat. It would have been worn with a wide square hoop or panniers under the petticoat. Scalloped ruffles often trimmed elbow-length sleeves.

The dress and petticoat are fashioned from a gray-green Dupioni silk and are trimmed with a pearl lace trim and pleated ruffles. The jacket is lined and closes in front with snaps. Decorative seed pearls are sewn on the front of the stomacher over the snaps. The petticoat is also lined and has snaps on the waistband.

Underneath the dress there is a corset that laces in the back. Under the corset there are double panniers. The double panniers tie at the waist under the corset and over the shift. The shift was the undermost garment worn by children and women of this time. It could be plain or lace trimmed. The shift is trimmed with lace and closes in back with Velcro.

The hat is fashioned from Dupioni Silk, lace, pearl trim, faux pearls and satin flowers. This hat is styled as most fashionable hats if the time with a very shallow, flat crown and a wide brim. The hat is attached with hat pins (included).

Shipping is free and the entire ensemble arrives (USPS Priority Mail) carefully packed in a lovely storage box, Paris des Fleurs, with a magnetic closure.

The doll and shoes are NOT included.
